:A local fruiterer disposed of four hundredweight of. tomatoes over the counter oil Saturday last. Ho states that since tlio price of meat has been increased there lias been a keen demand for fruit and vegetables. A sub-committeo of. the Mas tor ton j County Council yesterday considered the question of taking advantage of the National Provident Fund to provide superannuation for its employees. No definite action was taken, pending tho receipt of further information. _ ; A case is to be heard at the sitting of the Supreme Court in Masterton next month, in which Elizabeth Brogan claims from the Public Trustee, as administrator of the estate of the late ■William Moriarty, a sum of £500 as wages alleged to be due. A sitting of the Conciliation Council was held here on Tuesday, presided over by Commissioner Hally, to consider proposals drawn up. by .the Manawatu Cycle and Motor Mechanics' Industrial Union, of Workers. - Steps are being taken to form a branclt of the union in Masterton. Tho Y.M.C.A. camp, which has been held at Okura during tho last week or two, is to be lifted on Friday. Nine land agents' licenses have been issued in Masterton this year by the Stipendiary' Magistrate, and the funds of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board will benefit to the extent of £45. The Akitio County Council has received thirty-six applications for the position of county engineer or overseer. A final selection will probably be made this week. _. . . ■ I The local division of the ot. Mr. H. Freeman has been appointed manager of the factory, vice Mr. C. Lee, who has joined the Expeditionary Force Mr. M. Hatinan, of Gisborne, has been appointed meat inspector at tho Waingawa freezing works, in place of Mr. Mackiey,' who returns to headquarters. , There are at present seventeen nurses registered in Masterton under the Nurses' Registration Act. A bracelet event is to be flown by the Masterton Homing Pigeon Club from the Solway Showgrounds on show I day. ' . '
