J The "ninth annual show of the Horopvhenua Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held at Levin yesterday. /Tho - association's wonderful luck still stands by them, for., again this year, pihe weather was glorious. The attendance was large, and the whole gatherfang bore everj; appearance of success, t The official opening was performed by '.w Primo Minister (St. Hon. W. F. f3Tassey], w h o congratulated the associ-ation-on their luck in getting such beau{l'iful Tveaiher, and complimented them ton the success of the exhibition. Ha added .that the prospects' for future khows seemed to be excellent. M. Hertrick. Mr. R. V. Brown was second, land Mr. P. E. Palmes third. A simiilar- competition limited to cows calred "teince July, 1911, brought out some nice |heifers in milk. M'Lesvey second, -and Mi. Patuaka Tauehi third. Mr. Patuaka Tauehi showed a very fine yearling crossbred dairy heifer, and .-secured first prize with' it. : Mr. L. C. Pleading got second, and Mr. Tauehi third. For a pair of dairy heifers calved since-July 1, 1914, Mr. Iv. S. Lancaster ( ".fus awarded, first honours, Mr. Hor-a-obin second, aiid Messrs. Saxon Bros, ythird. ■ Mr. L. o.' Reading was first with ia young hand-fed dairy heifer, the sec'ond award went to Mr. 'C. H. Cottle, jand the third to Mr. A. Horrobih. - '. The -champion butter-fat competition pas'-won by Mr. E. M. Herrick.

Cattle. . ! In the classes for purebred cattle, the gentries were numerically lighter, and 'ihe competition, consequently, a little Jless keen. However,' tnfire was plenty of quality present. ■ il'no pedigree Jersey heifers were a »ery good lot. Mr. R. D. Haxkness got the first prize, and he was closely iollowcd by Mr. li. L. Horn and Mr; lltJ. S. Lancaster. ' Messrs. Webb and Sons led in the 'class Jor pedigree Ayrshire heifers. Mr. ff. H. Colpman was second and third. [ Mr- W. Bevan had a walk-over in the Holstein heifer class, and • Mr. W. Baker in the class open-to the Holstein cows and heifers. The pick of the entries in the class for Jersey cows and heifers was shown •rby Mr. E. S. Lancaster, with Mr. R. iD. Harkness-second; and in the Ayrshire : cow and heifer competition Mr. T. H. "Colpman was first, and Messrs. Webb and Sons second and third. The-best pedigree Jersey cow -was Mr. SE. S. Lancaster's, and he got second Mr. R. L. Horn was third. < In the contest amongst pedigree Ayrshire cows, Mr. T. H. Colpman was declared the winner. Messrs. Webb and (&>as were second and third. First prize for the young Jersey bulls (shown was awarded to Mr. P. E. Palmos-; and in the class for Jersey bulls ''of any-ago the result was a win for Mr. Jl. L.' Horn, with Mr. R. D. Harknesa j'Kcond, and Mr. J. Johnson third. Mr. Colpman was first with his young if'Ayrehire bull, and the second and third were filled by Messrs. Webb |sand' Sons' entries. Mrs. A. S. Wilson kiron unopposed in tho class for Ayrshire ?bulls of any age. : Tho Holstein bull classes were not ; Mt. W. Bevan had a walkover in the young bull class, and Mr. KW. H. Field in the other class, j Mt. T. H. Windley was awarded a jifirst for-a pedigree Shorthorn bull he taxmried. ■ - - xSlieep and Pigs. > In the- fat sheep competitions tho en-tries-were fairly good. First prizes were by. Messrs. J. Kebbell (2), J. jDavies (2), Douglas Gardner (5), and JiMiss. Elsie Broadbelt. ( The fat lamb prizes were won by :■ fJMessrs. J. Dawes, P. A. Gillies (2), and VA. MTlieavey. I Some very fine pnrebred rams wore shown. In Romneys, firsts fell to Messrs. Jw Kebbell, G. J. Stratton (3), and C. 3?. Cotter. The purebred. Romney ewe "'first .prizes went' to Messrs. Douglas ' XJaidner (3), G. J. Stratton (2), and ?il. H. E. Gorringe. Tho pig section was fairly well patronised. The Porirua Mental Hospital's Jstock was varey successful in the Berkk shire classes, and in'some of the other ■ competitions. The Boys' Training Farm (near Levin) secured two firsts, and ■ other winners were Messrs. J. C. Neill ■ (2) and N. Horrobin. Tlio Wereroa Experimental Farm made-a fine exhibition of cattle, sheep, andxhorsos.
