The monthly sitting of the Petone Magistrate's Court was held yesterday, before Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M. For driving a vehicle over a railway crossing near the Grand National Hotel, while a train was approaching within half a mile, Kenneth J. J. Geange was fined £1 with oo'sts 7s. Sergeant Foster remarked that this was a very dangerous For failing to render personal service' under tile Defence Act, Harold. Stewart and Lionel Hood were each fined ■ 55., with costs 75., in default 48 hours' imprisonment, and Thomas Scolland was ordered to pay 7s. Court costs. Charles Pidgeon, who appeared to answer a charge of refusing to quit licensed premises when requested to do so, pleaded "guilty under extenuating circumstances," and was fined £1 with 7s. oosts, default being fixed at three days' imprisonment.

Before Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., a sitting of the Juvenile Court was held at Petone yesterday. A boy, fourteen years of age, appeared to answer a charge of throwing clay at a railway engine, a practice which' the police intend to put a stop to. After being severely cautioned, the boy wps discharged. Another boy, whose parents were state dto have no control over him, was committed to the Wereroa Training Farm.
