PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL

■. -*— .'At last evening's ' meeting ' of the' Petone Borough Council there were present: The Maoyr (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan) and Councillors List, Cox, Forsyth, Brocklebank, Anderson, Findlay, Townsend, Jones, and Trueman. An application for a : renewal of a billiard saloon license was granted A. Spenoe, subject to the usual conditions. An application for the position of head driver in connection with the motor-bus service was referred to the Motor Service Committee. The Superintendent of Police' acknowledged receipt of the council's letter re damage to property, and 6tated that the matter was- being attended to, the opinion also being expressed that the Petone police should be able to check such mischief if proper activity was. shown in such matters — The communication was received. It was agreed to allow the fencing of Lot 5, Jackson Street, to 6tand in abeyance for the present, at the request of Mr. A. Young, as negotiations for the orection of shops, etc., on the property are proceeding. The Wellington Harbour Board agreed to the council's application for a loan of £3400, at'6jr per cent., for five years, and it was decided to complete negotiations in this connection.

Mr. C. H. Izard notified that he intends to claim under Section 343 of the Munioipal Corporations Act, 1908, damages (10s. (3d.) for cost of repairing spring to his motor-car at Butt Road orossings, arid, also to apply to the court for an injunction for the removal of the ,

The Coal Committee, consisting of the Mayor, and Councillors Anderson, Cox, ( and Findlay, reported as follows: —' Delivery of coal to Koro Koro and Lower Hutt: The question of the de-

livery of coal to Koro Koro and Lower Hutt was considered and it was decided to recommend, the council to charge 2s. per ton extra for delivery to Koro Koro and Lower Hutt beyond Hutt bridge, with a minimum of Is., and to placeß in Lower Hutt, south of the bridge, and on the western side of the river Is, per ton with a minimum of 6d. Coal for works: That the council be recommended to authorise the gas manager to arrange for nevt financial year for the delivery in such quantities as may be required 1600 tons of Aberdare or Bell Bird coal, 2200 State (Liverpool) coal, and 500 tons of Coalbrookdale coal. Sale of coke: Recommending that coke be retailed in sacks at Is. Id. per cwt. at the works, and Is. 3d. per cwt. delivered in Petone. with the additional charge as mentioned iu the first clause for deliveries to Koro 'Koro and Lower Hutt.—The report was adopted. ■ •*
