HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL

The Lower Hutt Borough Council met last evening, there being present the Mayor (Mr. H. Baldwin) and Councillors Hodgins, Meldrum, Brassell, Parsonage, Ball, and Hobbs. Before proceeding with the business, a motion of sympathy with the Town Clerk (Mr. W. B. Nioholson) was passed, regarding the death of his father. An opinion was received' from the borough solicitors regarding the Hutt Park, stating that as a publio recreation ground the Park was not liable for, rateß. It was resolved to accede to , the "request of the Hutt Fire Brigade, in which compensation was asked for, for _two firemen who rendered special services at a recent outbreak. •Three applications, for renewals of picture theatre were granted, subject the the engineer's approval. Councillor Ball as the council's delegate to the half-holiday conference for the combined district of Hutt and Petone, .reported that he had not attended the .meeting at Petone, because, he had found, upon looking into the Act, that the convening body's delegate takes the chair in the event of a dispute regard; ing .a chairman. 'Realising that this meant two Votes against his one, he had communicated with the Petone delegate, and stated, that it would be useless his attending the meeting.
