"FOUND DROWNED." An inquest was held by Mr. D. Go A. Cooper S.M., yesterday afternoon* into the death of Elizabeth Lindsay. Murphy, a married woman, whose body was found in the Hutt River on Anniversary Day. Evidence was given by Thomas Pek ham and William Black as to the finding of the body. Constable R. Holmes, stationed at ixiwer Hutt, said that on January 21 a son of Mrs. Murphy's came to the police station and said that his mother had not been seen since Tuesday, and as a result the search which resulted m . jf 9 fr? d 'ng of tho body" was originated. Witness had known deceased for the past four years and apart from her. drinking habits she was most respectable. Thomas Barker, Civil Servant, said that deceased was. a neighbour of his. At about 8.30 on the morning of Tuesday last he heard a disturbance. Hedid not take much interest in it- as such were frequent. Then he heard deceased s voice say: "I'll go over here." She then came into witness's house.Alter some persuasion he got her to go out of his.house and asked her why didn't she go home. Deceased replied in an undertone: "IT] g0 down to the river." Witness.said: "No; go home." Deceased, who was very much under the influence of liquor, walked down towards the river, then stood still and commenced talking to herself. Witness then went inside. It was a habit of Mrs. Murphy's to come to witness's house for sympathy when she was under the influence of drink. Witness knew that deceased had told other people on .other occasions that she would "go down to the river." ( The Coroner returned a verdict o£ "Found Drowned," there being no evidence to show how deceased got into the river. YOUNG. WOMAN ■ MISSING. Inquiries are being made, in respect to Mrs. Agnes Kneeble, a young married woman, who left her home at Lower Hutt on Sunday afternoon, and has not since been heard of.
