FRAUD ON A BANK

T , „ Sydney, January 25. John Henry Burgess has been commrtted for trial on charges of obtaining money on false pretences. He went to tie Bank of New Zealand and represented that he was on his honeynfnnn aud , tllat ne had an account of MUOU at the Commercial Bank in Hoartk,»^e Sive the manager a cheque for £1000 on the Hobart Bank, and was then allowed to draw two cheques of £20 each. Burgess's cheque was sent to Hobart, and his arrest followed. The .police gave evidence that Burgess had admitted that -he had no account at Hobart, hut that it was a system he had used, a system that came off nine times out of ten.
