• APPEAL TO ANGLICAN CHUBOH- ■ MEN.. In a letter whicu appeared in the iaranaki ".Herald" receuuy the Hev. «• a. Uole, iormeriy Arcndeacon ot larauaki, states:—i see by a report iu wit) i'ress Uiat a resolution was lately passed by the Veswy ot St. Aiary's uiurch, New Plymouth, drawing tno attention pi the jiisnop towards tho JJioposed dioceso of laranalu. 1 have no douDt but tuat the' iiisiiop. will-do what no/can, wnen he visits Taranaki to urge upon the Ohurch of lingiaud people ot tho Arcndeaconry the urgent need of an endowment for the Bisnopnc; and that ihoy should bestir them-' solve* to do something towards getting this endowment, and so l-*jiy lounu Mo c t , iujuys veßiry in tins very necessary work. Tho movement tor a diocese of Taranaki has reached the following stage av mo prosent moment:—l. iho General Synod flas set aside, Taranaki for a diocese and has donned its boundaries. 2 it has consented to allow the ilar'sden Memorial JL'und Commission to receive moneys earmarked tor any Church of England purpose—a diocese of Taranaki tor lnstanceMiistead of a≤ a contribution to the main purpose'of tho fund wnicli, 1 believe, is for some educational purpose. 3. The following trusts have been brought into boing with. the View of making the desire for a diocese a, practical realtiy.; (a) The VGovettBrown Memorial Fund/' tho object of which, is to maintain a man in. full "ordors solely for. work : among' settlers in the back-blocks and. for no other purpose; When, however, the backblocks become settled parishes or parochial district and back-block workceases to bo, then the fund is- to be applied for tho maintenance of a diocesan missioner who will be at the disposal of the Bishop, to be used by him as he thinks best. Tho trustees of this fund are the Taranaki Church,of England Trustees, (b) "Taranaki Parochial Sustentation Fund. , ; the object of which is to assist those parochial districts now constituted or to be consistituted whose income derived from collections and offertories at all divine services, apart from special collections, does not exceed £145 per annum. The trustees of this fund are the Church of England Trustees and two additional appointed by the Vestry of St. Mary's, New Plymouth, (c) "Taranaki Bishopric Endowment Fund;" the object of which is what tho title suggests; but with the proviso that, fai'liil? the appointment of a Bishop at aU, t'he , interest and annual income is to bo applied in increasing the principal until it reaches a certain sum sufficient to support an Arch-, deacon for Taranaki, who shall be free from all narochial ties to devote the, whole of his timo to Taranaki as a whole. Tho trustees of this- fund are the same as of fund (b), viz., tho Archdeacon of Taranaki. J. S. M'Kollar, Esq., S. Percy Smith, Esq., and- two additional appointed by St. Mary's Vestry, viz., G. "F.. Rob'inson, Esq.. and S. W.- Shaw, Esq., all of New. Plymouth. All that needs to be clone row is for the Church of England people of Taranaki to make up their minds that they will have a Bishop of their own, and to .unite as one man in one supreme effort .to build up the endowrent for his sup.port. Now is the opportunity 'to back the Vestry of St. Mary's with deeds and not words; now is the time to organise meetings everywhere all over Tarannki for this great purpose; no<v is tho chanco to rally found the Bishop when he comes to sneak on this and <in other matters, and so make what, I am suro, all aro longing to see, a'reality and a fact. . .
