MAGISTRATE'S COURT
MILK CASE DISMISSED,
' Reserved judgment was given by Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S:M., in the Magistrate's Court on Saturday morning in the case in which. Willi am lueledou, of f>6 Tasman Street, was on five informations charged with selling milk : which had been adulterated with the addition of water and annatto, contrary to the provisions of the Sale of Food and Drugs Act, 1908. At the hearing ot tlie caso Mr. H. H. Ostler appeared for the Health Department and Mr. .M.Myers for defendant. In giving judgment the Magistrate referred to tho point raised by Mr. Myers that the analysis was not good as it had beoii carried out to a certain extent by Mr. Ajidrews, and not by Dr. Maclaurin In respoct to this point, the Magistrate held that Dr. Maclaurin had been justified in signing the analysis. In conclusion, tho Magistrate remarked that the reason he was • dismissing tho information was because defendant had not been supplied with a sample of tho milk seized. i
POLICE BUSINESS. Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M.p presided over a short sitting of tho police business of the Magistrate's Court on Saturday morning. Axel Williamson and S. Ah Cheek, a Chinaman, each pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour in Willis Street. The police- explained that the pair were discovered having a stand-UD fight, but as to what had led up to itfliey did not know. Each, of the accused was fined 10s. The alternative was fixed at forty-eight hours' imprisonment in each case.- . • :
One first-offender for insobriety, who failed to appear, was fined 10s., and two others were convicted and discharged. ■ <
