In urg : ug the importance of es- ' tablisliing a Solar Observatory in Australia, he .declared that scientists had lately, discovered a considerable variabilfty in sun fluctuation; the solar radiation amounting to 5 to 10 per centum in 48. As tho temperature of the earth depends on the suii, it is'probable this varying radiation may be found to bo very important. For only about a;year lias it been known that tbe sun was variable, and it' was impossible with the single observatory now engaged in the work to ascertain the full valu«' ■ of the discovery. ■
