FURTHER RESOLUTIONS BY

TEACHERS

The New Zealand Educational Institute continued its consideration of the Education Bill yesterday. Mr: A. Erskine presided.

On t'he motion of Mr. H. A. Parkinson, it was resolved: "That-.this institute heartily welcomes the provision in the Bill for subsidising .local contributions, believing that this- will lead to a greatly increased appreciation of.-the value of education, and would welcome, a further. provision that local governing bodies' should be permitted to make grants to primary 'schools." It was considered that salaries of inspectors should be increased to £500 (minimum) per' annum. -Inspectors (it wae.said) should >be the best men in the profession,'and, low salaries would result in'a deterioration of the inspectorate. : ■■•■ " •■• . -

The. meeting decided :"That Clause 181 is tod drastic, and that provision should be made by the-Public Health Department for' the free medical and dental treatment of the children.of parents in poor circumstances." The matter of suggesting further improvements to the Education Bill was left to the members of the executive.

It' was jesolved: '.'That this. meeting of delegates'requests the executive to endeavour to obtain an amendment in the Superannuation Act, so that the retiring allowance 'shall be calculated on the three best years of service'; and' that house allowance shall be taken into consideration in the computation." COLLEGE GOVERNORS' ACTION; The Wellington College Board ' of Governors decided yesterday that'consideration of the Education Bill should be left in the hands of the chairman (Mr. A. de B.
