ROYAL CHORAL SOCIETY
'■.■.'.— —— 4 ■ . '- , RESIGNATION OF THE CONDUCTOR A good deal of surprise was occasioned to supporters of the Royal Choral Society, when an announcement whe made at last evening's rehearsal to the effect tbat'Mf. Christian Hellemanu had tendered bis resignation as conductor, and that it would take effect at once. Mr. Hellemann, it will be remembered, was appointed conductor te the society in succession to Mr. Maughan Barnett ~ last year, and has since presided over the society in that capacity at several concerts, and has also become known as a capable accompanist. Mr. Hollemann's action, in resigning will mako ir imperative for the society to secure another musical director at once, as the opera "Samson and Delilah," now in. rehearsal,, is scheduled for performance about the middle of this month. For* tunately there is in Wellington a highlytalented, musician, and conductor, who will grace- the : position, and it is not improbable that he will be approached te fill the position so unexpectedly vacated. • ■ '
