■ A locturo on "Tlio Economic Position of Women in Education" will bo.deljvercd by' Dr. Agnes Bennett in ttie Sydney Street Schoolroom on Monday evening next, at 8 o'clock, under the auspices of tho Wellington Association of Women Teachers. Maesey) has arranged to meet a deputation from tho Trades and Labour Council in reference to tho cost of living at 10.30 this morning. Charles Henry Newton, alias Murray, has been conmiitted for trialiii connection with the burglary at Grieves's jewellery establishment in Gisborno (states a Press Association telegram from Gisborne) on June 12. Evidence was given that accused went tea firm of auctioneers and asked them if they were prepared to do business, saying he could give £500 worth of stuff for £60. and adding: "Of course it is-a 'crook' deal." Two bankruptcies were. recorded in Wellington during the past month, making a total of seven for the seven months ending July 31. J. Findlay's lecture ■on Thursday evening, Mr. G. Hogbon announced that the party of members of' the British . Association,' numbering about 40, with 15 American scientists, would arrive at Auckland on August 30.
