ENTIRELY FOR THE COURT.
COUNSEL PULLED UP. During tho hearing of a caso at tho supremo Court yesterday afternoon. His Honour Mr. Justice Ilosking had occasion to protest at counsel referring to the possible punishment of accused if tho charge was sustained. The easo wag one in .which two Voting ™ e " woro charged with indecent assault. Mr. 11. F. O'Loary, accused's counsel, in addressing the jury, said that the charge was one which, if sheeted hoino, would procure for them a long term of imprisonment. His Honour immediately objected to counsel's reference, and Air. O'Lear.v apologised, explaining that he was merely calling attention to the seriousness of tho crime. His Honour; "[ have stopped counsel egard to this matter, and I intend to do so in the future. I do not think the relcrenco (loos any good., and it is not relevant to I In; issue. IVo know it is a serious charge, but tho question of imprisonment is entirely for tho Court, and I do not think 'that counsel should comment on it."
