The question of extending thcPlunket nurso district so as to include (Hunterville and Ohakunc is being considered by tho Taihape branch of the society. ' At a meeting of the Upper Wangaehu Road Board on Saturday a lettei was read from tho Rangitikei County Council, to the effect that tho council could not see its way cjear.to take over the portion of the Mataroa Road at present under tho control of tho board. This road has been < giving considerable trouble for some time past, as it is •usually in a very bad stato during the winter months. , Mr. F. Welch, of tho Taihape Railway staff; is i under notice of transfer to Wanganuil Mr. D. Hay, of Wangamii. will, fill tho vacancy. The prevalence of stouts , and weasels in tho Rangiwaea district is said to be "responsible to a great extent for the present scarcity of pheasants. Saturday was one of tho stormiest days experienced here for some years past. The only damage reported was the temporary blocking 'of tho main south Toad by a big tree, which also crashed through the, telegraph . wires, and delayed'communication for some time. . ShecDfnrmers have- been troublpd with ' tho stray-dog nuisance for' somo time past, and last week several instances of sheep having been worried were re- , ported. • : TJho rainfall for the month of' April was 3.93 in. Rain Ml on 18 davs, the maximum 'fall being 0.92 in. on the S)th. The averago for tho corresponding month in the previous eight years was 3.14 in. ■ A strong committoo has been formed ■with the object of holding a flower show at Taihape next spring. Thirty additional men nr,e bcini sent to tho railway construction works at Raetihi. Tho total number employed will thus be increased to ,150.
