Sir Joseph' and Lady Ward were tendered a civic reception 'oil. their return to the.city from Motueka this afternoon, when the Leader of the Opposition was welcomed to the pity by a very large gathering. At a meeting of tile Wellington Main Branch of the' United Labour Party held last night several members raisfed the question of the'lack of facilities in the outlying parts of the city for citizens to ascertain . whether their names aro on tho roll and to secure enrolment when necessary. It was explained that last year copies of the roll and forms for enrolment had been placed in some sixteen different places throughout the city, and the present complaints were made by people resident at. Kilbirnie, Brooklyn, and .other' outer districts. The following resolution was passed with reference to' the matter/ and the secretary was instructed, to'communicate it to the town clerk and Press: —"That in the opinion of this branch of tho, United Labour Party it is littlo sho"t- of a scandal that adequate facilities are not provided, as was done laist year, to enablo citizens to inspect the roll, and where necessary' to socure claim forms for enrolmont. Wo protest that the enrolment of electors is a public duty, and should not bo left to privato, individuals,' and urge that in every part of the city rolls ind claim forms should be available at convenient , places duly advertised."
