Gaynoiv of, Petone, whilst walking along the Hutt RivnAbank, stepped on a treacherous piecocfj ground, and was precipitated'intb',the .'water. , .■; Another boy, named — Bidwcll, obtained: help from Oppenheimer's works, and Mr. H. ■ Pettit 'rescued" the lad, in an •unconscious state. After artificial respiration had been applied, by Messrs Pettit,.Money, and M'Gill,' tho ■ boy , rallied,;, and was taken to his home. v

• ■:•_.- Carterton, 5 March 31. A , middle-aged man named James Hiley,;-T?ho .has boon working at Flat Point, came into town to-day to proceed to Blenheim, where ho had work to go to. Ho was knocked down on the Carterton.railway platform by a protruding tablet'receiver on the engine of tho 3.60 Welliiiston-bound train. Ho was walking along the platform, and mi'sjmlgcd'the distance of the approaching train. He received two nasty-wounds on tho head, which were dressed, and the injured man was sent to the Hos--pital. 1 , ,, , TUPAEOA TRAGEDY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) :: Cisborne, March 31. 'At an inquest regarding tho death of the man drowned near Tuparoa, deceased's identity has been established as that of James Turner, who camo to the district a few months ago with a Swede named Schroder. The two men wero returning to their camp, and wero orawling along a lengthy flood-gato, when, at the middlo gate, Turner fell Into tho flooded stream.. Schroder unsuccessfully tried to reseuo his mate, and then bad difficulty in crawling, in an exhausted condition, to the camp, A vordict of accidentally drowned, was returned.
