Bill introduced by tho Reichstag recently providing for the legalisation of tho bookmaker in Germany is a Government 'measure aiming at the restriction of touts and clandestine betting. Under this new law it is intended that all business transacted by tho bookmaker will be'taxed, whilst tho profits of their clients will also be taxed on a graduated scale. The bookmakers will be allowed to bet on horse races only. The totalisator will still continue to bo tho authorised method of speculation on such' by the Government. Lutteur 111, who filled third placo in tbe Liverpool Grand National Steeplechase, is now tea years old. He is owned by Mr. M. J. Hennessy, and has already won several big steeplechases ; n En'gland and France.
