ALLEGED NEGLECT OF AUTHORITIES

Sydney, March 30. The wreck of the Saint Paul at Cape Moreton is causing considerable comment in the Press on 'the 111-hgut-ed shores. . Reference are made to Laptam Brewis's (officer in charge of the coastal light service) report, in which ho recommended that the Cape Moreton lights should be replaced by more poworful ones. The newspapers urge the necessity for prompt action in providing protection for shipping. ■. MAIPO REPORTED SAFE. THE DISTRESS CALL OFF THE :■ ' FRENCH COAST; '. ■ .'■ London, March 29. The Chilean Government, steamer Maipo, which' was reported to be m distress off Belle-Isle-en-Terre, is safe. The help of thq steamer Otway which, went to her assistance was not needed.
