'A special meeting of the Hutt -Borough Council 'will bo held to-morrow evening at the request of the Mayor (Mr. E. P. Bunny) to consider the following notices of motion by him:—"(1) That the consent of the ratepayers be asked to a loan of'£27oo for the purchase of about six acres of land adjoining tho Recreation Ground for recreation purposes; and (2) that tho council purchase a motor-vehicle for fire brigade purposes at a cost of about £420." :'■''•

Councillor 'Anderson has given notice to liiovo at to-night's meeting of tho Petono Borough Council: "That the gas manager bo instructed to report -upon tho following matters:—(l); Whether it would be advantageous' to remove the gasworks from Udy Streot to tho council's'property at the sandhills; (2) the cost of same, together with all incidental costs, such as increased trunk mains, etc.; (3) what saving, if any, could bo effected by such removal, and in what direction; (4) what would be the.effect upon the cost price'per 1000 cubic feet of gas if tho proposal were given effect-ib." A p'icturo benefit performance is to bo tendered the Hutt Amateur Athletic Society at tho King George Theatre next Thursday. During tho evening winners of junior and schoolboys' events will be presented with gold medals.
