Before tho Court of inquiry, which is investigating the circumstances connected with the death of M. Gaston Cnlmctto (late editor of the "Figaro"), who was shot by Madamo Caillaux, wife of tile French Minister of Finance, the' accused, , Madamo Caillaux, was interrogated as to her object in taking a pistol into the "Figaro" office. "It was to make a eceno if I did not get satisfaction," replied the accused, sobbing bitterly. Sho expressed deep regret, and protested that she would rather have seen the attacks on her husband continued than have killed M. Calmetts.
