. At tho Annual meeting of shareholders of the Now Zealand Drug Company, held in Dunedin on Monday, the chairman, in dealing with the balance-sheet, said:—The capital paid up now stands at £256,245, together with the sum of £7410 173. 6d., the amount of calls paid in. advance, bo that the dividend will bo calculated on £263,635 17s. 6d. Tho general reserve, with the appropriation of last year, now appearing as £40,000, will bo increased by adding the amount of the premiums on now issute ot shares—viz., £4375—and tfe now ask you to appropriate a further sum of £625 to bring this reserve up to-the level figure of £45,000. Open accounts and liabilities, together with bills payable and unpaid'dividends, represent the total amount owing by the company, and stand at £50,956 os. Bd. Against this, on the other side, we have assets in bills receivable, customers' book debts, and open accounts and cash in bank amounting to £91,461 lis. 4d. The difference of £40,475 10s. Bd. in these totals is tho excess of our liquid assets over our liabilities, without trenching on our main assets of stocks, buildings, and plant. The ' book debts have been taken into account as in.former years, subject to the reserve .of 5 per cent., which appears on the other side to provide for any unanticipated contingencies. Stock stands at £186,693 —an increase of £13,291 over last year's figures. A small advance has taken place in several departments owing to increased trade, but the main increase arises in the stooks at Auckland. . The flro suddenly disarranged the usual inflow of raw material and the corresponding output of manufactured fertilisers. Largo shipments of raw material previously contracted for came to hand after the possibility of manufacture had ceased, and these have necessarily remained in etore 6iuco then waiting the reerection of the ne\v works. Meantime manufactured stocks had to be ordered from elsewhere to ■ keop the trade together and supply.the many customers who relied upon the company for their supplies of fertilisers. Notwithstanding this dislocation and change of front, the turnover has limn well maintained. Buildings, p:an;, and fixtures show an aggregate reduction of £14.049. In referring to that general reduction, however, it- should be explained that these .assets have been credited with the sum: of £2-500 appropriated for tho purpose, at .last, annual meeting. On the other hand, the cost of, tho temporary stores .required for tho raw materials arriving and to arrive has been charged up to the Auckland acid works, and that the lead, etc., purchased at a cost of £6895 has been dobited as part, of the new construction. .■.INTERNATIONAL MERCANTILE MARINE.

" According to the "Financial Timc3" the acute weakness noticeable in connection with tho whole oj the capital issues of tho •International Mercantile Marine Company, oil Nrcw Jersey, rell-acts market apprehensions regarding the final outcomo of ,the "litigation 'which ia now taking; place concerning tho liability of the owners of the Titanic to tho relatives of those who lost-their lives in that disaster, and also, of. course, to the owners of the cargo on hoard at tho. timo of the- catastrophe. The decision' went against the company in the Appeal Court, but it is unden-'tood tho matter will now be taken up to the House of Lords. Tho shipowners maintain that they are only liablo for £18,000. or thereabouts, but as against this claims esti. mated to amour,, to £2,600,000 have been lodged. The o.uestion is entirely one of law, but the seriousness of tho matter is apparent. LONDON SHEEPSKIN-SALES. Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., hav« Te-
