"NO FURTHER ACTION"

EXHIBITION BAND, INCIDENT. (By TelesrraDh.—Press Assooiatlera.) Palmerston, March 26. The North Island Brass Band executive met this evening, when several lettors woro read in regard to recent irregularities' at tho Auckland contest. Mr. L. Cohen presided over a full meeting of tho executive.

Mr. Cohen contended that amoro dignified way would have been for the judge not to have ignored* the association, and first.gone to the Press, and circulated statements which would bs hard to repudiate, seeing that they had been .so widely circulated both in Australia and New Zealand. They had great difficulty to face, in dealing with this question, especially as tho .executive were distributed all over the island, and. there was also tho difficulty of getting the offending bandsmen, together. If they decided to hold an inquiry, the men charged should bo in a position to hear the charges from tho lips of those who made- them. Two bands bad been singled out, whilo others were implicated.

Lieutenant Herd (Wellington) and T. Russell (Wauganui) denied that their bands wero the offenders.

A lengthy discussion ensued as to the course of procedure, and it was eventually decided to take the evidence of members of the executive who wero present when the irregularities took place.

_ Finally, it was proposed by Mr. Williamson, of Auckland, and seconded by Sergeant-Major Anderson: "That the executive, having dealt with the letter from tho Auckland Band Contest Committee, and having heard the evidenco of members of tho executive who were present at the contest, take no further action,'owing to the difficulty of deciding which bandsmen wore culpable. At tho same time tho executive regrets that any particular bands should liavo been singled out for blame."

Tho executive passed a voto of thanks to tho Auckland Contest Committee for their excellent arrangements at the last contest.
