Ever since "the morning of October 22 constables have been stationed at the gates and everybody who approached was asked to produce a pass. This practice has now been discontinued.

The wharves had a particularly busy appearance all day yesterday, and it is estimated that fully 1600 men were employed working cargo. Included in the number wero over 100 strikers who had signed on sin<io tho striko collapse oil Friday last. The Harbour Board alone employed close on 500 hands during the day, and between 30 and 40 ex-strikers .were included in their ranks.

As soon as tho new Arbitration Union's. offices opened in. the morning ~ there, was a rush of applicants for membership. A quouo was formed, and, ! with yesterday's quota, the total number, of old' watersiders Who have given •in their allegiance to the Arbitration Act during tho two. days totals 680. Present indications are that there will ho about 3003 men offering for an ■ amount of employment that can bo carlied out by some 1500. It is an- ■ ticipatcd that preference badges will jbo 'issued to those members of the union who are entitled to them beforo the end of this month.
