In the Police Court on Friday morning a man named David 'Slicclian, ■ with several aliases, was charged with drunkenness, using obscene language, damaging a coat, and assaulting and resisting the police. Accused pleaded guilty to tho charge of drunkenness, but said ho knew nothing about the other charges. Evidenco was given by several residents, who came to the constable's assistance, and also Constable Murray,_ who had a largo bruiso on tho side of his head, and wa3 lame. The Court held tho charges proved, and it was found that thero were several previous convictions against the man. For drunkenness, ho was convicted, and ordered to pay 3s. car hire; for resisting the polico ho was sentenced to six months' imprisonment with hard labour. For obsceno language a penalty of 405., or seven days' imprisonment was imposed. Ho wib ordered to pay 15s. for the damage to the constable's coat, and for assaulting the constable a sentence of six months' imprisonment, to' run concurrently with tho other sentences was imposed.
