Sportsmen will gather at iuastortott on Thursday next for the spring fixturo of the Masterton Racing Club. Wrellington patrons will bo enabled to make the return journey in one day. Thero is another, payment. for the New Zealand Cup due on Friday, October 24. The Caulfield Cup will bo decided on Saturday next. Acceptances for Trentbam are due on Friday evening. ' D. Deeley will most likely have tlio mount on Merry Guy in tlio Dash Hack Handicap at Opaki on Thursday. The bay gelding showed all his old pace in the Electric Hack at Otaki, and ho seems to bo coming back to his best form. A win for him is .considerably overdue. • • ' 1 • • When Stamboul scored in tlio Hanfurly Handicap at Wingatui on Saturday ho was ridden by tiie Highden joe-, key,. AY. Bell. This was Bell's only success at tlio meeting, though ho was in a place on several occasions. Suratura has been doing good work at Clarevillo during the past couple of weeks, and G. Ncicii's charge is greatly fancied for the Flying Handicap at Opaki on Thursday., The Awapuui trainer E. AVatson is taking four horses to Opaki, viz.,, marama, First Consul, Black Lupin, and a maiden. J. Conquost will havo tlio mounts on tlieso horses. Hansard and Stepney, in charge of H. Telford, will bo railed to Masterton to-morrow. C. l'ritchard is leaving Trciitham on tlio samo diy, and will tako linmer, Mt. A r ictoria, and Ceylon, while J. Scott will proceed with Cadonia and Turna. Mr. A. Bristol's gelding contend that the long straight at Opaki will suit him to a nicety. Kilrain is one of tlio early fancies for the AYellingtou Handicap, and witlr only q, stono and 61b. above the minimum, tho handicapper has dealt very loniontly with him in tho light of his Treutham and Riccarton form in July and August last. Mr. Riddiford'a liorso is moving along very freely at headquarters, and can bo depended upon to strip very fit on Saturday weok.
