At Thursday night's meeting of the Borough Council Mr. l'ickford was appointed to fill the position of town clerk and inspector, which duties ho takes up on Juno 21. At tlio euchre tournament on Thursday night, the two leading teams were beaten. The Terriers beat the Band by 28 to 15, and the Railway defeated the Foresters bv 28 to 25. Mr. and Mrs. W. 11. Nelson havo returned here from Wellington. At Thursday night's meeting of the stewards of the Jockey Club, Mr. M'Mahon, one of tho stipcndiaTv stewards, was also present. Mr. J. Walden wroto resigning the position of. raeccourso detective owing to advancing years. Mr. Samuel Kraetzen wrote applying for the position.
