ORPHANS CLUB.

PRESENTATION TO CAPT. HALSEY. The seatiiig capacity of the Masonic flail was not equal to the large number of members of the Orphans Club and others who' assembled there on Saturday night. Among those present were his Exeellency the Governor (Lord Liverpool), Captain Halsey (of H.H.S. New Zealand), Major-General A. J. Godley, Colonel Wolfe, Oolonol Porter, Colonel Collins, Major Brown, Major Watson (of lavercarnill), and the Hon. T. M. B. Fisher. General Godley (vice-president of .the club) presided. The everting was regarded as a farewell to Captain italsey. who, on his first visit to Wellington, had been welcomed by the club'. During the evening Captain, Holsey was presented with an artistically-bound souvenir of the programme rendered on tluo night of his welcome by the club. The entertainment was excellent, particularly the work of the orchestra. The Orpheus Quartet contributed the early numbers, and the concluding items wore provided by members of "The Dandies" and "The Crimson Ramblers." Other contributions were as follow:—Orchestra, the Club; baritone solo, Orphan Webster; banjo duet, Orphans Connors and Hall; tenor solo, Orphan Phipps; humorous Bketch, Orphan Bentley Russell; bass.solo. Orphan Hutton; dramatic recital, Visitor Clarke; quartet, Orpheus Quartet; humorous song, Orphan Digby; tenor solo, Orphan Fletcher; baritone 6010, Orahan Allwright; "A Short Talk," Orphan Carr j baritone solo, >, Orphan Craig; quartet, Orpheus Quartet; overture, the Club Orchestra; eolo, Orphan Clarksonr dramatic recital, Orphan Tingey; duet, Orphans Carr and Hickmott; and humorous song, Orphan Hales.
