THE PICTURE BUSINESS.
AN IMPORTANT 'AEKANGEMENTV
Mr. John Fuller, inn., who returned from a visit to Sydney on Wednesday, reports that a new and .Important arrangement has been effeotod during the post week. Hitherto a considerable dimcnltj has been espericnoed by tho various picture theatre managements _ through having to screen tho same pictures at to oeo time, which has meant in soma towi. that if ft person or a party visited ojk theatre, ithcre was no induoement to visit another the 6ame' woek,' because of tho BimUiaxity of thfe pnogTam.m'os. _ J-ho loading film exchlanges and picture theatre proprietors (which includes Fuller and Sons, Haywnrds', wsstrs, J. D. •Williams, Ltd., J. and N. Tait f, »nd other firms) have now axramjned Witli their buyers that in future all pwprammes purchased for exhibition in Now. Zealand shall bo composed of entirely different subjects, ay this atrangemtant tho publio will understand that for tho futons entirely different programmes of pictures will .be gubmivted in each theatre. . .... Mr. Fuller explained that this ammpomeant did hot moan anything in the'nature of a "combine." If another p? 16 ? or four pioturo theatres wero established in Wellington by now managements thoy would bo supplied with films from any agency, and their programmes would differ from all the where'. Tho folly cf, the old arrangement oould bo illustrated by instamoing what tho situation would be if all tie theatres in a city produced the one play at tho fixmo time. It might 1)9 "East Lynne." Those who liked that play would only go to tho ono theatre, and. thp probability was that those who did not Would not ro at all, because it was being performed everywhere ait tho samo time. But if, at a; neighbouring theatre. "Hamlet" was being performed, at another "The Wearing of the Groon,' and still another "His House in Order," overy 'taste in the drama would be catered for. The price of admission to pictures wns low, and many could afford to ]visit two or threo theatres a week if the fare was varied.
