MINERS' STRIKE.
NEW "SOUTH WALESJ'XTROUBLE SPREADS. PROPOSAL FOR .SETTLEMENT. By Telegraph—Press Copyright '■ Sydney, March 19. The whole of the South Coast mines arc' now idle. It is stated that a considerable section'of the men did not favor the strike, but irritation over po'ico espionage at Saturday's meetings supplied the spark which united them. Tho miners declaro they never lieard of the police insisting on being present" at the masters', meetings, and fail to see why they should attend the men's gatherings. It is hoped that to-day's aggregate meeting will open the way to a settlement, otlierwiso it is likely there will bo moro serious developments. A deputation from tho Southern Miners' Federation saw Mr, Carmichacl (Minister for Labour), and submitted proposals that all tho strikers should return to work on tho condition that a special tribunal was appointed to decide tho matters in dispute, both sides binding themselves to accept its decision. The. matters to be discussed would be the dismissal of Russell and two other miners. Mr. Carmichaol ofrered the services of tho Industrial Registrar as an intermediary. The Registrar will' confer', with the masters to-day.. 1 The Premier (Mr. M'Gowon) and Mr. Carmichael both declined an imitation to attend tho ; aggregato meeting. THE MEN'S TERMS. \ (Rec.
