CITIZENS' CARNIVAL.

SECOND EFFORT. To-night the moving picture companies' 1 of the city are generously providing a first-class programme of entirely new films for the motion picture entertainment, which takes place in the Town Hall at 8 o'clock. Some 9000 feet of film will be shown, and the principal pictures are:— "Beautiful Venice," "Gay Time in Atlantic," "Orphans' Contest," "When Wealth Torments," "The Man Who Learned." "Tho i Shuffle of Fate," "May Fly" (a beautiful coloured scenic), and "The Dawning." Tho music is being supplied by the Opera House Orchestra, who' are also giving their services to the Carnival. Tho general admission is sixpence, but a section in the circle has been reserved. Holders of Art Union tickets (Is.) may reserve their seats at Abel's, Manners Street. JOTTINGS. General arrangements for tho third and big effort, which opens at Newtown Parkat 11 a.m. on Saturday, are nearing completion. A large staff of workmen are now busily engaged getting the multifarious details.

Numbers of inquiries have been made with regard to the admission of motorcars to Newtown Park. Tho committee have decided that, owing (o the crowd expected, cars will not be admitted, but a stand has been arranged for in Roy Street. , Tho G<?ar Meat Co., Wellington MeatExport Co., and- Mr. R. C. Rcid have donated sheep for the guessing competition in connection with the Carnival. Owing to the difficulty of selling Art Uii|on tickets at the Park,, the Executive Committee have decided that these tickets will not bo sold at the gates. Intending patrons who desiro a chance for any of the prizes, aggregating .£IOO, should get their tickets early. Passe 3 will not bo issued at. the gates. The donation of Messrs. Staples _ and Co, should, act as an incentive to citizens to do likewise. Donations,- however small, will be very, welcome, but the committer anticipate that seventeen citizens will come along with £20 each, and thus secure for the committee the amount promised by Mr. Ewen, of Sargood, Son, and Ewen, which is given on condition, that nineteen . others contribute an. equal afnount. : . / / On Sunday afternoon the massed bands will provide a special programme of sacred music at Newtown Park in aid of tho Carnival. The sports section intimates that there are sixteen, entries for tho marathon race. The entries for tho electric light sports average IG' for each event. . A Rugby match will -take place on Easter Monday afternoon between Athletic and Petone at Newtown. Park. This is| the first match of the season. i

The proceedings at Newtown Parle lvilj begin on Saturday morning with 1 Hirliknd dancing, o. display by 500 school children, and an Association football match between Auckland and Wellington Y.M.C.A.'boys. After the lunch adjournment there will be more Highland dancing, raaypolo dancing for small children, a baby show, under the auspices of tlie Plunket Nurses' Association, axe-swing-ing, lacrosso match, hockey match, and more maypole dancing. The chief event will bo tho parade of <500 cadets, with march past and massed display of physical drill, sham fight, and first-aid by St. John Ambulance, followed by ,a route march round the Queen's Drive to Island Bay, returning to the Park. Incidentally there will be a buglo competition. In the evening the Park will be illuminated by electric light. The Wellington Amateur Athletic Association will hold a sports meeting. ,■ ■ < . At the executive meeting of tho Carnival 'Committee held last evening, the following were eleoted to represent the citizens who are to act with representatives of tlfo council in connection with the disbursement of tho proceeds of the Garni cal in beautifying tho. city:—Mesdames Luke and Firth, Messrs. A. Marrvatt. C. G. Wilson, C. R. Smith, and J. P. Firth.
