His Majesty, who was 68 years of age, was walking in tho street when 'ho was shot from, behind, and-died within half an hour. '•Tho assassin, a Greek degenerate named Alexander Scliinas, who is stated'to be demented, w'as arrested., He had in his possession a. pistol loaded with seven slugs. The Administrator of Salonika in his report slates that'a second individual .was coneeriied in tho attack. .The publication of the news caused:, a sensation in the : city. . His Majesty tho King, who is at Windsor, was greatly shocked at tho news of his uncle's tragic death. An official account received by his Majesty ; stated that the King of Greece -was shot at close quarters during the afternoon. ..His assassin stood only two yards away. Queen Alexandra was prostrated oh hearing that her brother had been fatally shot. ■ The Lord Mayor of London and the Mayor of "Windsor have condoled; . with , their Majesties.
