RIFLE ASSOCIATION.

ENTERTAINMENT LAST NIGHT. A fairly largo audience was present al the Town Hall last evening When an entertainment was given under the auspice! of the Wellington Rifle Associtaion, with the object of augment ing the 'funds nf that body, in view of tho approaching F.eason. ■ In welcoming his Excellency tin: Governor, Mr. T. if. Wilford, in ' the course of a brief speech, said that the allowance of ISO rounds of ammunition to riflemen might well be increased, in view of the good work which they were doing in an important department of the scheme of defence. He also remarked that ht» was'glad to see th.it the Government intended to restore the privilege of permitting riflemen to travel free over the railways for a distance of 100 miles. Th? ■ association proposed at its next meeting In includo classes in its programme for Senior Cadets, Territorials, and Junior Hide Clubmen, which however would ba no bar to any of them competing in the ' chaiiipionship match.' His Excellency the Governor said that ho was glad Jo sec that the association had not forgotten the Veterans (several nf whom were hmong tho audience). All honour was due to those who had served their country so ably iu the past. Their work had row been taken up,by their sons nnd grandsons in the same spirit, in taking up what was a necessary adjunct in tin training of a soldier—the art of shoot' ing straight. He was delighted to lie .awotinted with any movement, the object nt which was to encourage rifle-shooting. (Applause.) The entertainment which followed con- «, sisted mostly of an exhibition of moving Dichires. chief among which was a spirited "cowboy" picture entitled "The Trail of '- Gold," anil another realistic field picture ] entitled "The Territorials in -Camp and ■ Action," which showed a large force r,f field artillery aud infantry engaging in j a sham fight. A squad of Boys' ifetiluto Cadets, sin.trt and trim in appearance, was put through a course of physical drill by Captain Simeon, changing their move- i nients with clock-like precision at the sound of the whistle. Mr. D. A. Kenny , played a number of organ solos in an ncceptab'o manner. An orchestra supplied : a musical accompaniment to the pictures.
