J. >orrh, of Wellington, delivered an illustrated lecture in the loinrllaH to-night on the subject of "Tl<o British in India." The proceeds of the lecture wero in aid of tbe funds of the Masterton Baptist Church. ~M r - J- p. It was reported to the Borough Council last evening that there was now no difficulty in procuring supplies for the municipal gasworks. Tho Audit Department has informed the Masterton'Borough Council that it has no legal authority to sell coal. The council intends" taking the advice'of its solicitor on the subject.. A' conference of .local bodies is to be held here on Wednesday next, to consider the matter of the establishment of a high school, to - provide, courses'of professional, commercial, and, rural 'training, and also the question of consolidating the present system of mral training obtaining at the various schools throughout' the district, on the" lines adopted in Marton.
