Mr.;F.. W. Lang was elected without opposition ,to tho position of Chairman '. of .Committers, .-and, all the. usual Select Committees wero set up, except tho Public Accpunts Committee. Three-Government Bills were read a second time. The Deputy 'Governors' Powers Bill, defining tho powers of deputy .governors passed without opposition. The •Prisons'' Amendment Bill, relating to-the taking of finger-prints cf accused persons in custody provoked .1 discussion on prison ' system generally, and the -New Zealand University Amendment Bill, to empower the Senate to grant diplomas in Public Health, gave.rise to. a debate on University education.,."'."
