LETTERS TO THE EDITOR.
THE STAMPS OFFICE. Sir,—There is a rumour • going around that tho Government is going to carry out tho spiteful inleutiun<; of its predecessors in office and place tlio building for the Stamps Department in tho wilds of Sydney Street. The original intention was, (is no doubt your are well aware, to place it in the best of all [daces for such a widelv-usod Department, vix., the new General"Post Offic?. Hut the late Government vetoed that intention in order, us is well-known, to inconvenienco tho hated Wellington public as much as possible. Is tho present progressive Ministry going to slavishly carry out tho intentions of this ex-Ministry and earn tho hearty anathemas of the great numbers of the body politic who have cause to use this institution daily and hourly, or is it going to corn the gratitude of its numerous patrons by placing it in the- most convenient situation possible for such an important public office—the new ti.P.O.:—I am, etc., PROGRESSIVE. [It is not the intention of the now Government to place the Stamps Offico in Sydney Street.]
