MANAWATU RAILWAY SERVICE
Sir—l notice tho Minister for Railways intends to improro the suburban services; if so, a vcrv rude awakening awaits tlie Kip Van Winkle officials who control tho Manawatu suburban trains. There aro over 1000 people in the district, yet wo have no passenger trains from Wellington between 0.25 p.m. and 11.15 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. We emphatically declared some timo ago that the 5.20 p.m. train was unsuitable, and it was altered for a wonder, but now it runs at the old time (that is when it does not leave late). This train may suit tho Government employees, but it does not suit the commercial men. What we want is a train at 5.15 p.m. and another at 5.30 p.m., which would suit both. It is also a disgraco that we are left half a mile out of town every (lav to grope ou? way through dust or mild to reach a decently-kept street. -I am, etc., kIAIO.
