LEVIN AND -CO.'S- SPLENDID DONATION. The public, ni'o. soon to ses what is without doubt the finest collectiou of pictures over exhibited in the Dominion. The arrangements for housing and hanging the splendid Baillie collection in the lliiruonr Jionnl U shod arc being pushed forward with dispatch. The first selection of a picture for presentation to th'e National Gallery was made yesterday by .Messrs. I.cviii and Co., who chose a. striking canvas by -Mr. 31 el ton Fisher, wititlnl "The Koseiiiakors of the East End of London." The picture represents the interior of an artificial flower factory. A number of girls ol various ages are arranging in bunches and boxes groups of artificial roses. The drawing of the figures and the whole'arrangement of the composition is an admirable example of the sound quality of the work of a whole-souled student of nature, whose technique is beyond reproach, and whose, individuality of conception and design has brought him into the very front rank of the younger English school of painters. Not only Wellington, but the wliole Dominion, is under a debt of gratitude Id Jlcssrs. Levin and Co. for their generosity and for the admirable taste they have displayed in tho selection of this picture. The catalogue' price paid for the picture was .8350. The picture which the Arts Club has decided to purchase from the Baillie collection for presentation to the National Gallnry is to be selected by tho life class of the club. The Chamber of Commerce is giving its hearty and practical support to the movement, and U urging all the business people of the city to subscribe to the fund. The organisers, with a full knowledge of the position at the present time, are confident that the success of the scheme is assured.
