SOME WANGANUI VIEWS. (By Telegraph— Special Correspondent.) VVanganul, April 23. What has come to bo known as tho "Carnegie Cadge" was roundly condemned at last night's meeting of Wanganni householders, when tho chairman of the School Committee said it was proposed to approach Mr. Andrew Carnegio with a request for a grant for school libraries, particularly for country schools. The object aimed at was cordially approved by (he meeting, but tho proposed method of achioring it just as cordially condemned. Several speakers, including 'n clergyman and tho member for (he district, aftor referring to tho manner in which Mr. Carnegio had made his millions, considered that the right peoplo for him to return his money to were the workers at Pittsburg, who mado it for him. A prominent local merchant, in addition (o supporting that view, that New Zealanders 6hould bo self-reliant and self-sacrificing enough to dip their hands in their pockets instead of cadging from Mr. Carnegio or anybody else. A question from tho chairman, as to whether tho meeting was prepared to follow this suggestion was replied to by a chorus of assent, and a motion that the meeting disapprove of Mr. Carnegto being asked for money for any purposo whatever was carried unanimously, amid loud applause.
