For some time past, the North v. South Island Brass Rinds' Associations have had under consideration the question of amalgamation in order that one contest might be held annually, either in the North or South Island, and thus ensure a good attendance of bauds. The need for some step being taken in this direction has been accentuated by a number of North Island bands attending the South Island Association's contest at CliTistchurch recently, and not competing at tho present contest in Gisborne.^ At the annual meeting of the North Island Brass Bands' Association, held in the Borough Council Chambers this morning, the matter was referred to by Lieut.Colonel Priugle, who occupied the chair. The secretary'pointed out that in 190S a circular-letter was issued to the bauds regarding the question of amalgamation, and nothing camo of it. Mr. Hunter said that when at the Christchnreh _ contest recently 'the delegates seemed agreeable to tho'proposal. . ' , Mr. Anderson moved that the matter be left in.the hands of the executive, and this was carried.
