• 0 PROPOSED COMMISSION. By Telejrarh—Press A"«o;«tt«n-nnr.vric:hs Ottawa, February 9. The Government plans for the tariff Commission have been explained in Parliament. The Commission's duties will include, tbe gathering of information regarding the production, transportation, aud prices of goods at home, and abroad. The information may be secured upon oath, with tho right of inspection of 'he books of any concern. Every effort will bo made to exclude politics from the Commission's operations. Should the Government find that trusts exist in Canada, the Commission will bo ordered to report whether the remedy lies in the reduction of the existing duties. Tariff relations with other countries will be specially studied. Tho Liberals oppose the-scheme, as substituting government by commission for government by the people.
