Tarnnaki Championships and Handicap Tournament, at Waverley, February 22. 23, and 24. Hanawatu Championship and Handicap Tournament, at Palmerston North, February 1G and 17. Waipawa Championship . and Handicap Tournament, at Waipawa, on February 22, 23, and 21.

Club matches resumed last Saturday. One or two defaulters excepted, the teams were up to strength. Wellington A just managed to get a win over Victoria College, and Brown, as usual, proved too aggressive for F. P. Wilson. Both players had profited by their tournament play, and tho tennis was of fair standard. ll'Caul was not at anything like his term, and, consequently, Cleghoru had an easy win. Jeitory thoroughly deserved Ins place in the Wellington A team by defeating licere, who is a hard player to beat any time. Tho first doubles provided an even match. Brown and Jelfery, combining well, rim away with the first set. The second, however, was far more even, Wilson obtaining many well-earned points. J he tlnr.l, however, saw the Wellington pair again , to the front, the College pair lading out at the end. In the cup matches the surprise of the day was the defeat of the two first men in the Petone team at the hands of Lawrence and Kean, of Brougham Hill. Both matches produced hard play, and, as all the players had gone in for solid practice prior to the match, the victors are to be congratulated. Brougham Hill B were unable to obtain a team, and, consequently, Trinity had a walk-0,-er Neivtown were unable to get their full strength, and lost two rubbers to Wellington by default. Otherwise this match would have provided a doubtful conclusion. In tho pennant grade. Newtown had a very decisive win over Petone B. Petono only managed to win one rubber in which Thompson proved too much for .New-town's first man, Pratt. The two remaining matches, Bidwill Street v. St. John's and Trinify v. Brougham Hill, had liko endings, the first-named in each case winning by a majority of 5 rubbers to 1. In the ladies' cup matches the Petono cam, by deleting Brougham Hill, now hold, (ne cup. This match provided considerable interest, and the winners put up n creditable performance. Miss Curlis, of Petone, has played consistently good tennis right through the season. Miss Pliininer who played fourth in the Brougham Hill team, has also done well, and has gone through tho season without losinff either singles or doubles. In the final for the Thorndon Uub championship between It. A. K. Swanstoii . and P. 11. U. Fisher, the odds wero in favour of the jqrmar, in view of tho form shown by him during tho provincial championship, wnen he defeated Fisher in two sets straight, with the loss of only four games. On this latter occasion, liowever, the tables were completely turned, although in the third set it appeared like an easy win for Swanstoii. Vishcr—no doubt profiting by his practice in Christchurch and also in his strenuous match against Peacock, when in all 7,') games wero decided, played up during the remainder of (he match to his (rue form, and in (he last set especially his tennis vae practically faultless, liis volleying and good position were alike commendable, and altogether the exhibition was something worth watching. Swanstoii had been unfortunate in not being able to attend the New Zealand championship, and the results of the matches in which both Peacock, in die provincial cham-pionship,-and Fisher, in this latter, emerged winners, simply points to the fact (hat first-class tournament play is essential. '1 ho most interesting matches set down for decision to-day nro the finals in the cup grade between Brougham Hill A and Victoria College A, and in the racket, grade between Brougham Hill and Victoria College A. These (wo contests should provide clo=e finishes, and each loam will have tu play above itself to avoid do feal. Tennis Racket* and Net?.-Croquet sots mid extra niiilleh and brill.-, in all qualiHcs.
