CARTERTON.
The five-men manual event, in connection with the competition for tho lire brigade shield, was run on Saturday evening by tho members of the Ciirterton brigade. Three teams competed, with tho following' results-.-H. M'Kenzie s team, 30 3-osec, 1; iO. ■ MMvenzie s bam, 33 l-swc, 2; F. Jacksons team, 37 4-5*00., 3. Mr. W. G. Irvine, who has for some time past been managing the .(.'arterton brancli of Messrs. 0. Daws, Ltd., severed his association with Ihc nrm on Saturday to take' tip residence in Wellington. Mr. A.M. Dow has been •appointed to succeed him. Complaints are bsing made to tho lfmlway Department regarding the provision of proper truck accommodation for the conveyance of cheese to Wellington. Last week cheese sent from here had to bo packed in trucks with tarpaulin covers, which form passengers' cars at race time. The position was not improved by the loading as the trucks were drawn up alongside the sheep-yards for Hint piirMr. F. B. Cavo and Mrs. Cave, who, for many years resided in this district, have taken up residence in Wanganui.
