* The Tlon. D. Buddo is at Christelmrch. The Hon. T .Mackenzie spent yesterday at UnmucT Springs, but will proceed today to Christehurch. The Hon. A. 'J'. Ngata left yesterday for Napier. The r;>st of the Ministers arc in town, tho Prime Minister include.!, and he is expected to leave on Saturday or Monday next for a holiday of about three weeks in the Tuupo country. Mrs. A. L. Wilson is at Auckland visiting her sister, Mrs. Willoughby Kenny. Mr. George Newton, who died at the Grey lliver Hospital on Sunday last, at the age of 81 years, was an old resident of Brumior. lie. had taken a great deal of interest, in Labour matters on the Wt-st Coast for a nunilwr of years. At the time of the big maritime' strike, ho was practically the leader of the Labour party on the. coast, and took a prominent part in the dispute. For years he was' president of tho Grey Valley Miners' Union. Mr. James Newton, now Inspector of Mines for the West Coast, Nelson, and Marlborough, is a son of the deceased. Another son, Charles, died only last week. The transfer of Lieutenant-Colonel W. G. Dnthie. of Wellington, from the active list to the reserve of officers, is gazetted. Messrs. W. Butoment, of Duncdin, and Alexander L. Bolberby, Wairon, liavo resigned their commissions as justices of tho peace. Mr. James S. Evans, S.M., has been appointed chairman cf tho Licensing Committees of Nelson, and Motueka, vice Mr. W. Wilson, S.M.. Dr. G. P. Baldwin is gazetted Chief Medical Officer and Health Officer for the Cook Islands. Mr. H. M. Skeot has been appointed Commissioner for Crown Lands and Chief Surveyor for the Auckland district, vico Mr Eric Goldsmith. Mr. It. G. Prion has )>een appointed Chief Draughtsman in tho Department of Lands at Christclmrcli, and Mr. F. A, Thompson assumes a similar position at Napier. Mr. Skeet has been succeeded at Southland by Mr. G. H. M. M'Clure. Tho resignation of Sir John G. Pindlay as Minister for Justice and Attorney-Gen-eral is gazetted. The formal notice extending the appointment of the Hon. Wm. Hall-Jones, K.C.M.G.; as High Commissioner for New •Zealand from January 1 to March 31, 1912, appears in this week's Gazette. The time for tho temporary oiniiaynicnt of Mr. Henry Matthew Sto'well, licensed Native interpreter. Wellington, in the Native Department, is extended by a Gazette notice from three years to four years and three days. The extension of time dates from December 2!), 1311.
