General Latour was in the lead when the turn for homo was reached, but was joined by Miss Winsome at tho distance, the latter looking tho winner. At the lawn rails, Brady called on General Latour for a final effort, and the colt, answering with great gamencss, came at Miss Winsome fifty yards from tho post, and tho filly, failing to respond, General Latour snatched a victory by a head, amidst great excitement. Sir Moutoa was half a furlong away third. Time, imin. 40 2-ssec. Miss Winsome was a warm favourite, and, after the race, tho stewards asked Deeley (her rider) for an explanation of his handling of his monnt. This explanation, which was to the effect'that the mare was not herself and would not leave her opponent when he called on her for an effort, was accepted, Malwa camo down and broke her leg, being subsequently destroyed.
