SMASH IN COURTENAY PLACE.

CAR AND STEAM WAGON. Tramcar Number 7 and a steam wagon, owned by the Wellington Gas Company, came into violent collision in Coui'tx>iia\ l l'lacc yesterday at 5.15 p.m. The front of the oar was badly smashed, and its motonnan sustained a bruiso on tho leg. No one else was injured. When the collision occurred tho car, carrying a full load of passengers, was slowing down to a stop opposite'the gates of the Gas Company. One of tho two men engaged oil tho wagon had descended to 01*11 tho gates. The other turned tho vehicle so as to cross tho street and enter tho gates, and in somo way car and wagon collided, with the result mentioned, no fact that both vehicles were travelling at slow speed minimised the effect of the impact, which would otherwise liavo been very As was tho case last week, vo.stordny's Sydney boat, tho Moeraki, berthed at t'ho wharf without anchoring in tho stream to await pratique, but, during tho examination of passengers by tho Health Officer, no communication was allowed with those on shore. It is understood that this practice will be continued, as far as tho Sydney boats are concerned. Ilonio steamers, however, will not l>o allowed this privilege.
