Thp well-known Masterton "Willow Park" Estate, which was sold last week to Jfr. I). M'Lachlan, brought approximately i£20,000. The property is situated about two miles from Masterton, and comprises 1065 acres. The price runs into i.'23 per acre. It was suggested some time ago that the Government should fake over the block, but nothing was done in the matter. "Willow Park" was , formerly owned by the Welch family, who had had it f»r forty years. Eighty barbers' assistants employed in tho suburbs of Liverpool struck on September 13, demanding an increase of 4s. weekly, and shorter hours on Saturday. The hairdressers of London arc also dis r satisfied. Mr. F. W. Xiessen, secretary in London to the International Journeymen Hairdressers' Union, stated recently: "What we are aiming for is a 60-hour week, a minimum wage of £2 a week, and a minimum charge of 4d. per shave. This would automatically result in tho abolition of tipping." A barber who=o charges are 2d. for shaving and 4d. for hair cutting said: "The safety razor is killing the shaving business as it is, and if we were to raise our prices nobody would be shaved at all." At the Tottenham Public Libraries in the Inst twelve months there were 9012 fewer issues compared with the previous twelve months, and the decrease was almost entirely confined to novels.
