WELLINGTON SUBURBS.

MR. W. 11. D. BELL AT PLIMMERTON. Mr. W. H. D. Bell, Opposition candidate for the Wellington Suburbs seat, addressed a well-attended meeting of the electors at Plimmerton last evening, Mr. W. Galloway (of the Unit County Council) being in the chair. The candidate, during the course of his remarks, said that during tho 20 years of the Liberal Government's term of office abuses had crept in, reckless extravagances had developed, the interests of labour had come to bo disregarded, and political favouritism had become rife. Tho Opposition party stood for economy, an energetic policy oi land settlement and development, reduction in the cost of living, and honest and efficient administration. Mr. Bell declared himself to bo in favour of tho freehold, and during somo interesting remarks on the laud question quoted from a speech by the Hon. J. A. Millar advocating the resumption of leases by the Crown on the death of the tenant, and also quoted Air. Fowlds as having advocated the running of the railways free, tho expense to be met out of land taxation. The candidate contended that tho Reform parly, if in power, would do more for all classes than tho present Government. Even if, for argument's sake, it were assumed that the Opposition had no policy except the central idea of eiadicating political favouritism, Mr. Bell thought that all fair-minded men would vote for tho Reform party for that special purpose.
