JURY SYSTEM IN ATKICA. By Telecraph—Press Afisociation—Oopyriel Cape Town, October 25. The Transvaal A'ativo Union, recog niscd as an intermediary between th natives and tho Government, has peti tioned Lord Gladstone, the Governoi General of South Africa, to abolish th jury system in cases whcro whites an natives are involved. Attention has recently been directed i the working of the jury system in Atric by the- acquittal ot the lion. Galbrait Cole, a settler in British Hast Atric; and a son of tho iiarl of Lnniskillei who was recently acquitted on a. chaiv of murdering a native. Tho man h;i stolen a sheep, and Mr. Colo shot hii and left him lying where ho fell. Tl native died, and Mr. Colo stated that 1 had not reported the mitftr as ho di not wish to be further bothered wit it. On tho failure of tho jury to convic the deportation of Mr. Colo was order< by tho Imperial Government. In Euocles: recently Mr. Lewis, a well-known citiix of Bulawayo, was acquitted on a chan of murdering a native whom he had slu after his daughters had complained of tl man making improper suggestions them.
