Sho had a terrific encounter with a cyclonic storm off the Mexican coast on October 17. The vessel was thrown on her beam ends and badly listed to starboard, tlio' life-boats touching tho water. Tho City of Sydney put out to sea when the storm broke. Tho Matzatlan and other vessels remaintog in tho harbour were sunk.
